The retreat will take place at serene Scholls Valley Lodge, 29 miles west of Portland!

The "Art of Desire" retreat is both challenging and life-changing.  Many of us as LDS women have inherited an understanding of sexuality, desire and goodness that encourages self-doubt and limits our development as women.  The "Art of Desire" retreat will challenge these false traditions and offer you a new, life-expanding understanding of desire, its relationship to your personal development, and the integration / expression of your God-given sexuality.  In understanding true principles, you can create deeper comfort within yourself, more capacity for intimacy, and the ability to love more profoundly.  This three-day retreat is an opportunity you do not want to miss.

  • Hosted at Scholls Valley Lodge, on a beautiful Oregon orchard.

  • Exceptional day-long instruction and interaction with Dr. Finlayson-Fife

  • Daily Exercise Instruction in the mornings and some afternoons, please contact our office if you are a registered exercise instructor.

  • Three delicious meals each day provided daily (by Bellyful Catering).

  • Evening activities including a discussion about Perfectionism with Dr. Finlayson-Fife and a movie night.

  • Space for 28 women to stay on-site (first come, first serve).

  • Enjoyment of the beautiful grounds, relaxation, and the company of amazing women.

*All activities are optional, but encouraged.*

SESSION 1:

The cultural (mis)construction of female sexuality and desire. Impact on women's relationship to their bodies, sexual agency, and desire.  (This session includes a deep dive into Dr. Finlayson-Fife's research and what it shows us about the restrictive lessons many of us have inherited.)

Deconstructing women's relationship to desire: The shackles of shoulds, guilt, perfectionism, and an externalized measure of self; How these factors hamper desire, self-respect, and the integration of our sexuality.  (This session Includes a follow-up evening discussion with Dr. Finlayson-Fife on perfectionism and how it impacts our relationship to our sense of self, our bodies and our relationship to others.)

Developing the capacity for Emotional and Sexual Intimacy and understanding its relationship to integrity, creativity and self-development.  Includes video clips and self-reflection questions to help you harness and develop your unique gifts and forge deeper confidence.

Developing genuine generosity as well as the capacity to deeply receive.  Understanding the distinction between pleasing or reflexive-giving, and true generosity.  Understanding the distinction between getting or taking, and true receiving.

Sexual self-integration: Understanding our God-given bodies. Understanding women's amazing sexual capacity and nature and how it is different from what we've been taught.  Understanding the virtue of embracing our bodies and how this profoundly shapes our relationship to ourselves;  Discussion about the objectification of females (including exploitation and repression) and how to truly integrate our sexuality and be at peace with our bodies in the face of these harsh cultural messages.

Sexual self-development: Understanding, uncovering, and developing your erotic nature. Squaring eroticism with goodness. Forging sexual integrity and its relationship to experiencing joy.

Fostering eroticism in relationship to ourselves, a spouse, and to life.  Sexuality and belonging more deeply to oneself. Understanding fantasy and sexual creativity and its relationship to intimacy and self.

Wrap up : Questions / comments, and setting intentions for oneself going forward.

It is difficult to put into words what a life-changing experience last weekend was.  ... To be fortunate enough to be in that headspace for that amount of time will be an experience I will look back on and recount as a personal turning point. To say “thank you” for your work seems completely insufficient....

"Thank you for all of the work you put into this retreat! I loved the Lodge! It was peaceful, and relaxing, and has some amazing views. The food was delicious! It was a gift not to have to cook or clean up for 3 days. Truly an ideal setting to reconnect with myself without the distractions of everyday life. For me, I had felt alone and lost in my journey as a woman until I discovered these courses, especially The Art of Desire course. The opportunity to connect with other women dealing with the same types of challenges gives me hope and confidence. I also attended the 2-day workshop in Seattle last Spring, in which I connected briefly with others, but still limited. The retreat allowed me time to process the course material and really digest it personally, as well as discuss it with other women. I appreciated the extra time spent in each session, which allowed for more clarification and time for questions. I loved that we had time to include fun things like the little video clips. The option for a retreat, even at a higher price point is totally worth every penny."

"I had an amazing weekend... I came with my sister and best friend. It was really helpful for us to hash through all the material together during each meal and break. I want every woman to take the time to do this workshop."
— M. M., Art of Desire Retreat Participant

"I have taken the online Art of Desire class AND the Salt Lake 2-day workshop AND now this 3-day retreat! Gosh, you think I'd be an expert by now but it took me three times taking the course to finally open up and actually get the courage to DO something. During the online course, I was too scared to do or even think about any of the questions and exercises. The 2-day workshop I read the questions and couldn't really think of how to answer them or apply them to my life but I wanted to. This 3-day retreat I not only answered the questions but filled up the front and back of the page. I was finally ready to receive what you were talking about. Out of the three I liked the 3-day retreat the best for the following reasons: (1) I got to know the people at the course better and could open up and speak to them and discover I wasn't alone in "my issues". (2) Jennifer was much more open and relaxed during the retreat. I like how she had more time to answer questions and talk about our concerns. (3) Though the 3-day retreat was more costly, it was worth it!”
— J. S., Art of Desire Retreat Participant

"I am still reeling a little from the retreat, and in a good way. I feel like the way I view just about everything has shifted. And I feel like I'm still just fizzing with new ways of seeing things, and new information about my life and my purpose. I can't describe it very well, but it's a feeling I have not had in a very long time. And it's exciting and empowering and motivating, and I LOVE it.”
— J. S., Art of Desire Retreat Participant.

"Being able to stay on site and not have to worry about things at home provided space for me to process. I was able to really focus on the content by not having to worry about other responsibilities and obligations. In addition to that, being there with other women in that type of setting cultivated opportunities to have really meaningful conversations with other women. That was perhaps one of the biggest differences for me compared the two-day workshop and the retreat. At the workshop, I talked with other women but the conversation were more on a surface level. The conversations I had with others at the retreat were more intimate. Having a place to be able to walk around and talk was perhaps not only nice but crucial. These conversations naturally happened and unfolded because of the retreat setting and circumstances.“
— S. P., Art of Desire Retreat Participant

"Thank you for a wonderful and insightful 3 day experience. I loved every minute of it. I would call it a life changing experience. I wish more LDS women had a chance to hear you speak about this important topic of women’s sexuality. Thank you for sharing your truths with us. I loved getting to know so many amazing women too. The lodge, beautiful grounds, tasty food and exercise all added to the wonderful experience."
— M. A. A., Art of Desire Retreat Participant).

Go to the Facebook page to start a conversation with other retreat goers!

I am an exercise instructor!

Please contact our office with the subject "Oregon Retreat Exercise Instruction" and tell us what you teach. We will make a decision if it is the right fit and get back to you with instructions and compensation rates if it is a good fit.

When should I schedule my flights to arrive and leave?

A welcome banquet will be held on Wednesday, May 1st at 7:00pm (though check in is available starting at 4:00pm for those staying at the Lodge). This is a wonderful opportunity to meet Dr. Finlayson-Fife, to get to know other retreat goers, and to get settled and prepared for course content beginning early the next day. Arriving in Portland International Airport (PDX) before 4:00pm PT would give you plenty of time to drive from the airport to Scholls Valley Lodge. Course content will end on Saturday, May 4th around 4:00pm, and a farewell dinner will follow. We recommend scheduling a flight that leaves at 7:00pm or later, so you can listen to the end of the course content, enjoy dinner, and still have time to get to the airport in time for your flight.
